Mass Effect: Revelation (Book)

By Brotherhood619

Yes, this is the self-proclaimed book hater writing a review for, shock horror, a book, but don’t despair children, the world is not coming to an end. Well, not yet anyway.

Just as a warning, in this review I will be assuming you have played through the Game Mass Effect, or that you just don’t care about the spoilers.

Revelation is a prequel to the stunning Video Game, and soon to be Blockbuster Movie, Mass Effect. It follows David Anderson (the Original Captain of the Normandy) during his time as a Lieutenant for the Alliance, trying to find and bring to justice the Mercenary’s that destroyed a research station, with only one lead, Kahlee Sanders. He is not the only person investigating the attack, however, A spectre named Saren (boo hiss) has been appointed by the Council to bring the perpetrator to justice, by any means necessary.

The book was… quirky, it had the mix of investigation, sci-fi shoot outs and brutality that I was expecting, but when it switches you between Sanders, Anderson and Saren almost every chapter, you tended to get a little confused. Why is Saren cowering in a crumpled heap? Oh wait, that’s Sanders. Still it got a lot easier to manage during the later parts of the book when the characters have finally come together.

David Anderson was almost exactly what I expected him to be from the games, but I guess this is easy when Drew Karpyshyn writes both the books and is the lead writer for the game. There was less description of him than maybe some new people to the series would like, but his “features” are supposed to be “seen” in the game. Kahlee is where Karpyshyn shows his style, to me she was a blonde bombshell that should not be in the military, but then shows her strength later on (and even more in Mass Effect Ascension). I honestly like the character; she gives a healthy breath of fresh air to the story compared to the rough and tough of Anderson and Saren.

Some of the locations they visit, I wish were described a bit better, and yet there were some that were described almost perfectly, I’m not sure if this was intentional but one location, Saren in the Brothel, was described really well, but then the worker camp near the end wasn’t covered much until… well a certain spoiler event happens. In the end you make the story yourself just by imagining the scenery, rather than have it described to you.

I liked the book, not as much as Mass Effect Ascension, the sequel, but it was a good read and it did leave me wanting more.

I’ll give it a 6/10.

If by some chance you disagree with me, and Yes you have to read the book before you are allowed to disagree with me, Leave a comment below.

P.S. After putting this through a spell checker, I realised something… I can’t spell for toffee.

Many Apologies,

Sorry I havent been keeping up with this, but ill try a bit more scince University is now giving me plenty of breaks that i need to fill with useful things to do…

God Uni is awkward at the moment, the modules are just not what i expected from there titles. Not that im going to quit. ive planned this life scince i was 5 or less, not quitting now :) .

I do wonder if im typing these posts out just for myself, good stress relief really. But im going to have to plug soon, i have had 20 hits in the last week. No thats not good, they were all from me.

Living Life in a Game

I’ve started playing the Sims again… But I can’t really work out why this game’s so addictive! Any ideas? It’s basically just doing normal things like eating, showering, watching TV… so why did I just spend all day on it? From about 12 noon til… now – 12.30 in the morning. :S And i barely even registered the hours passing… Gonna have to try to refrain from doing the same thing tomorrow…. But seriously, if you have any ideas why this game is so addictive and popular, post them in the comments. I’m interested to know. But it’s time to sleep now, I reckon. Night all.

Relationships

I think that this quote is probably true

“The few people who understand relationships are the people not in one.”

When people care about others there logic kinda flys out of the window, instinct takes over, blinds you. not that there is anything wrong with that, because that means you care. if you were thinking straight 100% of the time, you probably arnt committed to the relationship 100%. Heh probably where i go wrong, what a commitophobe. Constantly backing out.

One Man + One Woman = 2 Idiots

Hi guys, I’m a friend of Allan’s and have a lot of random thoughts so he kindly set this up for me so i can blog too… so hopefully my username will become a familiar sight to you all. I have too much spare time on my hands, and far too many really random thoughts which I’ll be posting on here, so make sure you let me know what you think.

Firstly though, I’d like to thank Allan for taking the time to set this up, hope you enjoy my blogs too, I’ll try to keep them quite regular.

And secondly I guess I’ll introduce myself as RinoaSangria – I feel more comfortable with an alias on the internet. I’m 19, female and am into metal music, video games and decent film genres like horror, action and comedy. I’m obsessed with the Final Fantasy series of video games, and currently addicted to Dragon Age. So some references to these may come up from time to time.

Anyway, hope you’re all gonna enjoy my posts, you’ll hear from me soon :)

Porsche Have The Right Idea

Stick the storage in the front of the car, because then if you crash it, you save time because the person hidden in the boot has just been killed for you.

According to the MetCheck Website, We (People in East Yorkshire) have a 30% chance of snow, well considering the last 19 years I have not seen a white christmas, (it is probably longer but i have only seen 19 years anyway).

But if you dont hope, then well it wont happen will it, hopefully we will make our big snowman again, the last one we made was bigger than me.

have a good one
